A note on the 2019 Lanikai 8k

October 22, 2018

A note on the “Lanikai ‘Be Ready’ 8k” in memory of Thomas & Carolyn Lewis and daughter, Carolyn Adkison
“Be Ready” was a message my Dad, Thomas Lewis, was well known for. And it is the title of chapter five in his book he completed writing one week before he passed away. (“Studies in Bible Prophecy” available on Amazon).
The way he died was his message in itself. It was less than a twenty second lane change and he, my Mom, and youngest sister were killed instantly. They were on their way to my sister’s 7-month old baby girl, Keira’s, pediatrician appointment when they crashed into a stalled armored vehicle. Keira was the lone survivor.
My sister, Carolyn, dreamed of having a baby for over ten years. Her dream finally came true when she found out she was pregnant with Keira. And in the 7 months she got to spend with Keira, she was the most loving and protective Mother I have ever known. Today Keira is being raised by her Dad, Nick, who is doing an excellent job of raising her. She is a healthy, beautiful little girl who has her Mom’s smile and fun loving personality.
For two weeks prior to the accident, my Mom and oldest sister, Jenny, were in Hawaii visiting me. My Mom’s favorite place to go was Kailua Beach and two days before she passed away, the three of us spent the day there. It was my Mom’s last wish before she left Hawaii.
I feel the “Lanikai ‘Be Ready’ 8k is a fitting race to honor the lives of my parents and sister as it is held close to Kailua Beach which was their favorite place to go in Hawaii. Thank you for allowing us to sponsor this race.
