MPRRC Race: Kailua “Shark Chase” Beach Run

About the Race

NOTE: There will be no separate packet pick-up for this race. Please obtain your race bib on site race day.

IN-PERSON RACE: The race starts at 7:00 a.m. Check-in will begin at 5:45 a.m. in the park.
Start: The Shark Chase will begin on the beach at Kailua Beach Park near the boat ramp. The start line is actually on the beach. Faster runners should move to the front and walkers towards the back to avoid collisions.
Course: Out and back course. The wave-washed course follows the shoreline to a turnaround point near the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, then back to the start area. The entire course is on the beach. Shoes are optional – you will probably run through some shallow water depending on the tide and your desire to make a splash. There will be a “shark” to chase – the shark gets a head start. Can YOU catch the shark?
Finish: Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers as well as the top three in 5-year age groups.
Pot Luck &Talk story after the race! All participants are invited to remain in the park after the race to eat and talk story. Bring a dish to share (not required but nice). Food items may be dropped off before the race start at the check-in tent or retrieved from your vehicle after the race but all food items should be made available to set up during the awards ceremony. Then we EAT! An ice cooler will be available to store items requiring cold storage, as needed. Please use disposable containers if possible. Plates, cups, flatware, and beverages will be provided. A limited number of beach mats will be available, or you may bring chairs or beach blankets to eat, talk story, or just hang out in the park or on the beach. Bring the whole family!
If you want one of our unique race tank tops, be sure to click on the drop-down box to choose your size (there are women’s and men’s cuts) and to see other options.

Potluck After the Race!
