MPRRC Course: Lanikai 8K Run in Memory of Daniel Levey

About the Course

Distance: 8K

There will be a live, in-person event and a virtual alternative. Current guidelines do not require participant vaccination or masks, though masks are recommended before and after the race. If civil authorities reinstate covid restrictions prior to the race, be prepared to comply for the in-person event or switch to the virtual event.

Daniel Levey was a young man who died at age 19 in a hiking accident, the day after completing the Lanikai 8K in 2003. This race is held in his memory and generously supported by his parents, Dr. Joyce Cassen and Norm Levey. There is a special award given to the male winner in his age group.

NOTE: There will be no separate packet pick-up for this race. Please obtain your race bib on site race day.

IN-PERSON RACE: The race starts at 7:00 a.m. Check-in will begin at 5:45 a.m. in the park. Face covers or masks are recommended prior to the race start.
Start at the Lanikai Monument on the hill entering Lanikai, then two counterclockwise loops of the Lanikai Bike Path with the finish near the Lanikai Boat Ramp. If there are no restrictions in place, runners and walkers will line up on the road for a bunch start. Faster runners should move to the front and walkers towards the back to avoid collisions.

Parking is available in the Boat Ramp area as well as in Kailua Beach Park. If you order a tank top for the race, it will be available at packet pick-up and on race day at the check-in tent. Tank tops must be ordered by July 13th. Results will be posted on race day and available online at timelinehawaii.com. Awards will be presented at the race to the top three male and female finishers as well as the top three in 5-year age groups.

VIRTUAL CHALLENGE: The virtual event may be done anywhere at any time between Sunday, July 17, 2022, and Sunday, July 24, 2022. Submit your time on the "Results" tab on the RunSignUp race page. Participants in the virtual event are not eligible for overall or age groups awards.
